It’s 5:00 somewhere… but not here

So here I am, sitting at work. It is a pretty slow day. Not much to do this afternoon. David can’t be e-mailing me anymore. Well, he said he’d have to cut back, but apparently that means NONE. So that sucks. All my usual hang outs are dead. Even my dad stopped G-chatting with me.

I am particularly excited for this day to come to an end, because I am going out for sushi tonight with some friends! We’re going to Sake-Tumi, on Milwaukee St. This has quickly become my second favorite sushi place in Milwaukee. First is Nanakusa. They always have the best quality fish I’ve had in Milwaukee. You pay for it, but it’s worth it. The atmosphere is also wonderful. Minimalist Japanese.

I like Sake-Tumi because of the wide variety and creative menu they offer. They’re a “Fusion” restaurant, and although they have an emphasis on the Japanese, they offer Chinese and Korean food as well. They also have incredible specialty Maki rolls. My favorite is the Sexy Scallops. It is so delicious. I am going to be very sad not to order it tonight (sashimi only tonight- thanks South Beach!).

Their specialty rolls are NOT for the sushi purist. They’re drizzled in wasabi mayo and fried in panko and other sorts of un-Japaneese-y things. But their delicious and I appreciate their fresh approach.

The only thing I dislike about Sake-Tumi is this: Every time I have asked a server about what was particularly fresh or special or good, they tell me that everything is fresh. I’m sure it is, but if YOU were going to choose just ONE cut of fish, what would it be tonight? Which fish is better today? REAL sushi places will recommend one or two items that look good. Even in New York where they get everything fresh everyday.

Okay, I’m making myself hungry now. Enough of that. Onto last night…

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee was totally charming. I was very disappointed in our seats for what we paid for them. $46 each for the back half of the loge?! That’s ridiculous. I wonder if the front half was the same price. Because there were TONS of extra seats up there. We didn’t bother moving, though a couple others did. I paid almost $100 for the two of us to see this show. For the quality of those seats, I would have just as soon bought balcony seats for $28 or whatever they were.

It hindered the sound quality and visuals slightly, to be so far away, but we still completely enjoyed the show. In fact, the actors looked even more like little kids from so far away. It was hard to believe they were all adults.

I loved the free-wheeling, spontaneous feeling of this show. They brought up audience members to participate in spelling at the beginning of the show. It was so funny. They change references to reflect current and local events. It’s so enjoyable. The “I Love You Song” had me in tears and “My Unfortunate Erection” had me dying with laughter (and wishing I had orchestra seats).

One moment that was particularly awesome was this speed-up slow-down montage. I don’t know how these guys did it. It was seriously like someone pushed fastforward and then slow motion on stage. Sooo funny. I loved William Barfee’s (that’s Bar-FAY!!) last foot pound in slow motion.

No one will really understand that reference. He has a magical foot. Download the song.

I am so happy we were able to see it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a laugh.

And now, I was just informed that I can leave at 4:00. Thank you BOND MARKET for closing early.
Smooches, Trashy.

I DREAM of the Godzilla roll at Sake Tumi. Oh my gosh, it’s pure heaven.

I love REAL sushi, but I have absolutely nothing against those fusion rolls, either.

Oh man, your post made me crave some Sake Tumi something fierce. How was your dinner?

Oh, and congrats on the weight loss so far!!
